 ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – Clinton’s Brooke Warren-Foley rode a
perfect reaction time to a final round victory over
veteran Wayne Brooks of Monroe, Ga., that earned her the
Top Dragster title in Sunday’s NHRA National Open Series
event contested on the eighth mile course at Rockingham
                      Dragway.

Warren-Foley’s starting line advantage forced Brooks into
a breakout foul that made him a runner-up for the second
time Sunday. He also lost in the final round of the
companion Lucas Oil Series event contested at the
                      traditional quarter mile distance.

Among the other National Open winners was Dylan Stott of
Columbus, who drove his 2018 Ford Mustang past the 2010
Pontiac GXP of Doug Gbur in the Top Sportsman final
thereby denying the Greer, S.C., driver a weekend sweep.

Lumberton’s Corey Taylor claimed the Super Stock; Ron
Urquhart of Chesterfield, Va., prevailed in Stock; and

standing in Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street,
                      respectively.

Raleigh’s Kent Hanley shared Brooks’ “close-but-no-cigar”
status. After losing to Altilio in the final round on the
eighth mile, he lost to Amanda Boicesco of Warminster,
Pa., in the final round of the companion Lucas Oil Series
                      event.

Rudolph upset 2014 NHRA Southern Nationals Super Street
champion Ed Pauley of Shelby in a double breakout final to
                      win his hardware.

 FATHER
AND DAUGHTER WIN TITLES IN LUCAS OIL FINALE
Harrisburg’s Furr, Lumberton’s Phillips Among Other

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – Former NHRA Super Gas World Champion
Iggie Boicesco of Warminster, Pa., shared the winners’
circle with daughter Amanda and Harrisburg’s Steve Furr
kept at least some of the hardware at home Sunday as
drivers from 20 states and Canada raced for points and
prize money in the final divisional event in the NHRA’s
                      2020 Lucas Oil Series.

A nine-time NHRA national tour winner who most recently
hoisted the trophy at the 2019 NHRA New England Nationals
at Epping, N.J., Boicesco drove his 2017 Chevy Corvette
past the 1969 Camaro of Christopher Lewis of Rincon, Ga.,
to claim the Super Gas title just ahead of his daughter’s

                      Comp.

Furr, a multiple-time IHRA Super Rod world champion who
has won NHRA national events in three different
categories, got a free ride to the Top Dragster title when
final round opponent Wayne Brooks of Monroe, Ga., was
unable to make the call. After winning Super Comp at the
NHRA Gatornationals in 2010, the versatile Carolinian came
back to win the Top Dragster title at the same race in
2016. He then won Super Gas in back-to-back years in the
Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol, Tenn. (2017-2018).

Other winners in an event that presented one of the final
point-earning opportunities of the season for those
pursuing both NHRA national and divisional titles included
Doug Gbur of Greer, S.C., who topped veteran Johnny Brooks
                      of Surgoinsville, Tenn., in the Top Sportsman final;
Richard Preiser of Jackson, N.J., who drove his ’32 Bantam
roadster past the 2008 Pontiac G5 of second generation
standout Joel Warren of Clinton in Competition Eliminator
and veteran Joe Lisa of Vernon, N.J., who beat Lumberton’s
Corey Taylor in the Super Stock final.

In one of the event’s few all-North Carolina finals, Cody
Phillips of Lumberton drove his 2001 Corvette past the
Olds Cutlass of 1988 IHRA World Champion, 2019 NHRA
Southern Nationals’ winner and former Rockingham track
champion Chip Johnson of Fayetteville to win in Stock
                      Eliminator.

Brian Sawyer of Lunenburg, Mass., the 2017 New England
Nationals Super Street champion at the wheel of his 1967
Camaro, made a long trip south worthwhile by locking up
the Division 1 championship with a final round win over
Kevin MacNicol of North Point, Fla., and, finally, after
winning the 6-9 year-old Jr. Dragster title in 2019,
Fayetteville’s Brody Callahan returned this year to win in
the 10-12 division over Benson’s Bladen Core.

Many of those drivers who made the trip to compete in the
Lucas Oil event stayed over on Sunday to run the last
National Open of the pandemic year.
