WINS AT AGE 70; GONZALEZ TRIPLES UP AT MAN CUP White’s Pro Fuel Bid Denied as The Rock Hosts
                          39th 190Hookup.com Nationals

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – Defending champions Sam White and
Mark Rendeluk came up short in their bids to repeat
but Pablo Gonzalez and a seemingly ageless Paul Gast
avoided similar fates in the 39th running of the
190Hookup.com Nationals Sunday at Rockingham Dragway.
White, the Pro Fuel veteran from Chapin, S.C.,
seemingly had his specialty wrapped up after
qualifying No. 1 at 7.307 seconds and going even
quicker (7.306) in a semifinal victory over Walter
                          Halonski of High Springs, Fla.

However, in the final, an uncharacteristically slow
.167 reaction time by White provided former ManCup
Series champion Jim Martin of Palestine, Ill., the
opening he needed and he capitalized, winning in 7.407
seconds while White was covering the same distance in
                          7.346 seconds.

Meanwhile, Rendeluk, the many-time series champion
from Oklahoma City, Okla., was crushed in the Pro Open
final when he scattered a motor inches from the
starting line. Shane Eperjesi of Lake Dallas, Texas,
took the win. Eperjesi not only enjoyed a 6.380-6.668
advantage in performance, he won the starting line
                          battle, too, with a .012 to Rendeluk’s .044.

The going wasn’t quite as tough for Gast who, at age
70, repeated as Pro Mod champion, easily besting Terry
Wynn of Jacksonville, Fla., in the final.

Nevertheless, the day’s biggest winner was Gonzalez,
the veteran from Carolina, Puerto Rico who, after
winning Pro ET a year ago, came back to win three
different titles this time around. After beating
Denver’s Blair Field to win Saturday’s Pro ET title,
he won Sunday in both Pro ET and Street Fighter and
went to the fourth round in Street ET for the second
                          straight day.

Other winners in the season’s next-to-last ManCup
Series event included Tim Shelton of Hardy, Va., who
won in 4.60, Tom Varney of Cheektowaga, N.Y., who
scored in Super Eliminator, Jonny Ard of Indianapolis
and Ken Koby of Austintown, Ohio, who took the V-Twin
titles, Jason Herron of Lexington, S.C., the winner in
Super Comp, Wake Forest’s Robin Procopio, who
prevailed in Top Gas, and, finally, Chris Roelse of
Lithia, Fla., and Fayetteville’s Patrick Farrow,
                          winners in Street ET.
