TROPHIES, RINGS, CASH, TV COVERAGE FOR JR. DRAGSTERS
Roy Hill’s Drag Racing School Sweetens the Pot for Midwest Super Series Winners

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – In addition to cash and an iconic “Big Daddy” trophy, each of the 12 winners at this week’s opening event in the 2018 ProtectTheHarvest.com Midwest Jr. Dragster Super Series presented by Lucas Oil will receive a custom-crafted ring compliments of Roy Hill’s Drag Racing School.

The rings, which include the logo of the host track, Rockingham Dragway, along with the designation “Jr. Nationals Winner” were produced by Hayes Jewelers, the company that designed and supplied the championship rings awarded in Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock during the heyday of the NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series. Hayes also is known informally as the “Jeweler to the Stars” of NASCAR.

Open to young drivers six-through-17, the Midwest Jr. Dragster Super Series (MJSS) struck a personal chord with three-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Antron Brown.

“This wasn’t just about winning and losing,” Brown said of his first experience with the series. “Discipline, respect. These kids were learning at 9, 10, 11 years old lessons I didn’t learn until my 20s. I looked at how these kids just conducted themselves with one another, like mini-adults.”

Brown was so impressed that he introduced his own kids, sons Anson and Adler and daughter Arianna, to the series and himself became the volunteer marketing director for a circuit that this year will produce events in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio as well as North Carolina.

“It makes me feel good to give back,” Brown said of his involvement which, on weekends on which he isn’t driving his Matco Tools dragster, includes on-site seminars that offer tips to young racers on such things as sponsorship and communication.

“I want to teach them the business side (of racing),” Brown said.

For those seeking guidance on the track, Roy Hill’s Drag Racing School will conduct a Jr. Dragster-specific driving school on Friday prior to a special test-and-tune session for Juniors from 4-9 p.m. Special tuition for the school is $600 for first-time students and $300 for returning students.

Racing begins Saturday with qualifying, time trials and eliminations. Highlight of Sunday’s program will be two qualifying runs and eliminations in the featured Quick 16 category which will showcase the 16 quickest cars on the grounds.

In addition to Quick 16, champions will be crowned in 7.90, 8.90, 11.90 and 13.90 index categories, Sportsman, Pro A and Pro B classes, Outlaw 330 and three age group divisions (6-9 years, 10-12 years, 13-and-up).

Television coverage of the event, sponsored by Roy Hill’s Drag Racing School, will air on the MAVTV Motorsports Network on a date and time yet to be announced.
