HENSLEY REPEATS
‘MOPARS AT THE ROCK’
SHOOTOUT WIN
Lowe Again Claims
Trophy Class in
Venerable Dodge
Coronet Wagon
ROCKINGHAM – Matt
Hensley’s defense of
the Super Stock Hemi
Shootout title at
the 25th annual
Griffin Auto Group
Mopars at the Rock
festival was a
little easier than
he had anticipated –
but it had nothing
to do with the
quality of the
competition.
Henson drove his
Dandridge, Tenn.
based 1968
hemi-Barracuda to an
easy victory in
Sunday’s final round
after Russ
Campbell’s
Springfield,
Mo.-based “Missouri
Mule” ’68 ‘Cuda was
unable to make the
call after posting
the quickest time of
the first round.
Other participants
in what has become
one of the most
popular events in
the Mega Mopars
series were Jason
Hinson of China
Grove, Tank
Crosswhite of Glade
Springs, Va., Tony
DePillo of Dayton,
Ohio, and “Bullet”
Bob Reed, the hemi
car veteran who
resides in
Salisbury, N.C.
Other winners in the
drag racing portion
of the show were
Will McKay of
Rockingham in Top
ET, Tim Edwards of
Louisburg in
Footbrake and James
Lowe of Colfax, who
directed his
venerable 1969 Dodge
Coronet wagon to its
sixth win in the
Trophy Class.
In the all-Mopar Car
and Truck Show,
Raney Gervasio of
Wake Forest took
Best of Show in the
historic division
with a 1968
Barracuda; Mike
Judge of Pinehurst
claimed Best of Show
in the modern
division with his
2015 Petty
Challenge; John
Dietz of Anderson,
S.C., earned Best
Truck honors with
his 2014 Dodge Ram;
and Jack Hiatt of
Thomasville,
accepted the
Editor’s Choice
Award for his 1966
Dodge Coronet 500.
Top participating
club was the
Carolina Scat-Pack
and Rockingham
resident Terry
Rosberg wowed the
fans with a series
of exhibition runs
in his jet-powered
1941 Willys.
